The Future

I approached her-the woman whose hollow eyes stared back inquisitively at my hesitation. Here I was ready to open my palm to a stranger, yielding to her my soul. My mission unknown at the current age where reason no longer makes sense, I am looking for guidance.

Every line etched on this mystic's face reveals a life lived of sorrow, learning, and wisdom. The crooked lines meet in the furrowed burrow between her knowing eyes.

"Sit child." she whispers.

I am there for a reading aren't I? Or am I there to hear what I want to hear: hope a mist of longing.

"You have come for your fortune?" she asks for confirmation and I whisper back, "I have".

So gingerly she opens my tight fist tracing with her long silk fingers the multiude of routes that mark my palm. She sighs after some time and finally meets my anxious eyes.

"You have a journey ahead that has lead you through a crooked tunnel. All the toxic people that you know are finally forced out of your life. You know this is a journey of self-discovery. The future lies in the descions you make today."

But I already know this I thought. Where is the prince that will come forth? Where will I reside in the near future...does an ocean call my name or the desert my soul. Who will claim me? These are the questions that I expected answered from this woman.

Sensing my dismay, she crackled a laugh:

"What you already know needs to resonate within and be acted upon. For too long you surrender life's choices to others. You are not among the Earth's grip to move forward. My child you are your own palm reader."

Indeed she was right. I have yielded too much to fate, waiting for things to make themselves known or relying on others to lead the way. I am my own palm reader and the destiny lies in my hands. I thanked her then as a wave of humility engulfed my hands and I pressed them to my face for serenity so that I may now see.

This is a cute story. So many times we doubt our own thoughts of who we are and what we should do, expecting some one outside of us to lead us to what we need.
